Abrasion

Our inhouse labortatory is equipped with the original COLTS Laboratories Bayer Tester for completing the Bayer test procedure.

Abrasion_105

The Bayer test is one in a series of standard procedures for determining the abrasion resistance of a lens surface.

Abrasion is caused by abrasive media oscillating back and forth over the surface of the lens or lenses under specific conditions.

The quantification of abrasion resistance is based on the optical measurement of light scattering or haze due to scratches formed n the lens or lenses by the oscillating abrasive media.

Product evaluation is based on a ratio of the light scattering or haze gain measured on a standardized non-hard coated CR39 lens to the light scattering or haze gain measured on the coated lens.
